Ditch the Flowers: The Ultimate Mother's Day Cocktail Guide for 2024!

Mother's Day is just around the corner. This year, rather than the old tried and tested favourites, flowers, chocolates, scented candles and soap, we think you should give mum something she really wants. Now, before we dive into the wonderful world of Moonshine, the first thing you need to know is that Mother's Day takes place on Sunday the 10th of March this year. That doesn’t leave you with long to get organised! But, never fear, if you’ve run out of ideas on how to make the day special, look no further than our Mother’s Day Cocktail Guide! 

Cocktail Essentials

Up-cycling Cocktail Shaker Lid - Turn any empty O'Donnell Moonshine mason jar into a cocktail shaker, to help you unleash your inner mixologist and become the ultimate cocktail connoisseur.


Wild Berry Moonshine Smoothie 

This cocktail is perfect for breakfast in bed, brunch, or any time of day really. Our Wild Berry Smoothie combines our Wild Berry and High Proof Moonshines with real fruit to create a fresh and refreshing cocktail, ideal for those perfect Spring days, and, as they say, it's 12 o'clock somewhere!

- Ingredients -

  • 30ml High Proof
  • 30ml Wild Berry
  • Fresh or frozen strawberries/mixed berries
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • Strawberry juice/cherry juice
  • Granulated sugar
  • Mint
  • Crushed ice

- Recipe -

Cover the rim of a coupe glass in sugar syrup or lime juice and coat in granulated sugar

Place High Proof, Wild Berry, frozen berries, lime juice and sugar syrup into a blender

Add fresh fruit juice or your choice of dairy or non dairy milk for a thicker consistency & blend until smooth. 

Pour into your chosen glass and enjoy!

Tip: consistency can be easily changed by adding juice, milk, or even yoghurt.

Decoration: Sprig of mint.

Very Cherry Bellini 

A tart yet refreshing take on a classic Bellini. This one is perfect for raising a toast to mum. 

- Ingredients -

  • 25ml Very Cherry
  • 10ml of pear juice
  • Prosecco to top off
  • Cherry to garnish

- Recipe - 

Place a champagne flute in the freezer for 10 minutes.

In the chilled glass add, Very Cherry and pear juice and stir.

Top up the glass with Prosecco.

Garnish with a cherry and enjoy!

Tip: exact measures can be adapted to suit personal taste!

Decoration: fresh cherry.

High Proof Margherita 

A sharp yet smooth take on a classic! Yes, you can make a classic Margherita with our High proof and we think it rivals tequila! The sharpness of this tipple, complements the sweetness of those Mother's Day cakes that you (obviously) spent hours baking! Try this one to give your Mother's Day a bit of zing!

- Ingredients - 

  • 50ml High Proof
  • 10ml fresh lime 
  • 10ml lime cordial 
  • 20ml Blood Orange
  • Salt
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Limes to garnish

- Recipe -

Place a martini or short glass into the freezer for 10 minutes. 

Remove and cover the rim in honey or maple syrup.

Coat in salt flakes.

Add ice to your O’Donnell Jar.

Pour in high-proof, fresh lime, lime cordial and triple sec.

Screw on O’Donnell Moonshine cocktail shaker lid.

Shake until cold to touch.

Pour into chilled glass, garnish with a lime wheel, and serve.

Tip: If a classic margherita is a little bitter for your taste, add a little extra syrup to take the edge off

Elderflower Martini 

Introducing the elderflower martini - the ideal Mother's Day lunch aperitif, this exquisite martini combines the delicate floral notes of elderflower with the smooth taste of high proof, the perfect addition to your mum’s special day.

- Ingredients -

  • 40ml High Proof
  • 20ml Elderflower cordial
  • 10ml sugar syrup 
  • 20ml lemon juice
  • 40ml Ginger ale

- Recipe -

Place a martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes

Add ice to an O’Donnell Jar 

Pour in High Proof, Elderflower, cordial, sugar syrup and lemon juice.

Screw on the cocktail shaker lid 

Shake until cold

Remove the glass from the freezer, pour in the cocktail mix and top with Ginger ale.

Garnish with Sprig of Mint and enjoy 

Tip: Use fresh lemon juice rather than bottled, for added zing

Tough Nut Cream Martini 

A delectable dessert cocktail using our newest creation, Tough Nut Cream! An indulgent end to the perfect Mother's Day, and superb dessert cocktail to end a wonderful home cooked meal!

- Ingredients -

  • 50ml Tough Nut Cream
  • 30ml High Proof 
  • 25ml cream
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp of maple syrup or honey
  • 20g white chocolate, grated

- Recipe -

Place a martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes

Remove the glass from the freezer

Grate the white chocolate onto a plate, brush the rim of the glass with maple syrup or honey and coat in the grated chocolate 

Fill your O’Donnell Jar with ice 

Pour Tough Nut cream, High proof, cream and vanilla extract into the jar 

Screw on the Cocktail shaker lid

Shake until cold to touch

Pour into a martini glass and serve

Tip: Replace High Proof with Tough Nut, for a nuttier, even more indulgent blend

Decoration: Grated White Chocolate

Bloody Moonshine (The Ultimate Hangover Cure)  

Because you can treat your mum to a Moonshine cocktail EVERY day. And because, after a day on the Moonshine, mum may well be feeling slightly worse for wear on Monday, why not whip up a 'Bloody Moonshine', our O'Donnell take on the traditional hangover cure that will both wake her up and soothe her pounding head.

- Ingredients -

  • 70ml High Proof
  • 170ml Tomato Juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Worcester sauce 
  • 1 tsp tabasco 
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 crack of black pepper
  • 1 celery stick to garnish

- Recipe -

Fill your O’Donnell Jar with ice

Pour High Proof and tomato juice into the jar.

Add in lemon juice, Worcester sauce and Tabasco.

Shake until cold to touch

Pour into a tall glass

Add salt, and black pepper and stir to combine.

Garnish with a Celery stick and enjoy! 

Tip: A non alcoholic may proove a more effective hangover cure - but it's nowhere near as much fin!
